where sylvia does the cooking part and the whole time david dances in the background and sometimes stirs things for a few minutes and says "now that's the chord that pleased the lord" a few times as things start coming together.
the theater is having a christmas potluck tonight and i wanted to go mostly for the food and also bc they owe me a check and i don't wanna go there on my own time to get it bc i know they'll stop my day to talk to me for two hours if they even see me on the premises. so i'll go and let them talk to me for two (and a half hours) but at least get to eat the whole time. i was just gonna make box brownies or something easy but then david was like hey i saw this dessert and we should make it so i was like hey the party is tuesday and we've gotta bring a thing anyway let's do it.
idk if it's bc we're at high elevation but our lil puffs don't look like the video, and the ones in the video don't even look like normal ones BUT it's tasty so who tf cares i guess lmao.

i read the youtube comments (bc i'm a fool w foolish habits) and someone mentioned another channel's video that showed how to make the caramel in a more traditional way. it ends up looking like a spider webby mess but it also looks stupidly fancy and it's so unecessary and actually gets in the way of eating the stupid things so i was like fuck it let's fuckin do it just to be extra bc drippin sugar everywhere sounds like fun
but i had an appointment in between baking and the actual party, so by the time i got home i only had time to stuff the lil suckers w our custard we made the night before and then slather on a sugar cage and skedaddle!
but i fucked up! i fucked the fuck up and i sat there waiting for the sugar to ~golden~ without doing the weird step i thought was optional where you wet the sides of the pot w a brush dipped in water. so then i started doing that and turned away for one entire second and david was like "hey nice it's like changing color finally"
"oh is it turning golden"
"um no more like red"
there was no saving it lmao.
and i mean we could have left a few minutes late. we live seven minutes from the theater. but i was so bummed and kept yelling about how annoying it was that it didn't turn out absolutely perfect according to the vision the very first time we had ever attempted cooking this brand new dish. david was just like. shrugs at everything i say. i think he was also a bit like "oh, rats" but not as loudly or immensely as i was haha.
so we just piled our weird inconsistent lil domes of custard onto a plate and brought them. david was like legit on a mission to not make it known to the whole crowd that we brought the plate we did bc they were p mediocre looking compared to everything else lmao. halfway through the night he was even like "hey what if i went down there and like, pretended to consider our cream puffs and then maybe take one, do you think it would look like we didn't bring them?" ahdsfdjs
for the record they tasted fuckin b o m b. their lackluster appearance did not do them justice. the custard was rly good, def what made the whole thing work. as much as i wanna give credit to the stupid lil domes i spent five damn hours cooking lmao. and even tho the plate wasn't like totally demolished, a good number of the puffs were missing by the time we took the plate home. and rly considering how much damn food there was that's the best we could ask for. david and i literally made it halfway through the first table before we sat down and were so full afterward neither of us went for seconds ever.
and all in all it was fun. i've got my small set of the regulars at the place that i have worked w and know well enough that i can sit w them and not feel awk af lmao where as most of the volunteers there i more do the awk smile nod thing to and that's it. i didn't end up getting my check haha, but i was then invited to another party (the staff~ party. the theme is mexican food. which i, a mexican, should be fuckin chill w except they invited me so damn late that everyone is already bringing all the shit i know how to cook!) and was told i could get my check then. so okay! i guess i'll puff myself up for that, too.
but i def wanna try this stupid spider webby puff mountain mess again, and w a better puff recipe that actually puffs!!!
