Oct. 23rd, 2018 09:26 pmwe just watched a remake of psycho that takes place in 1998 and i'm so ? ?? i don't know how i feel about it lmao
at first when i saw in the opening credits that vince vaughn was norman i was like "no?". but he got the awkward intensity down well and i liked how he played the character a lot actually. plus i'm obsessed w julianne moore's face. like. what? the solidification of the eternal goal of balance between a powerful jaw and still being effortlessly adorable and sweet looking??? please. so great. now i need to add watching her entire filmography to my to do list since this movie reminded me of her! i'm such a busy lady honestly~
i feel like i shouldn't have to explicitly state i also enjoy her acting but here's me saying it
but what freaked me out from like. two minutes into it was noticing that the script was exactly the same. and the shots were exactly the same? it was so eerie! that's a good way to describe it. it was just rly strange to watch the exact same movie but with newer cars and weird late 90s fashion.
i don't have any negative feelings toward it per se. i don't even regret the time i spent watching it. i did ask aloud after the movie was over "why did they decide to make this movie, and make it exactly the same?"
it was interesting i guess to be able to really see just hoe well the script aged when being plopped into a more modern era without the standard vintage intonation that to me always put even bigger a distance between me and the characters whenever i watch older media. and it seems like a cool project to test how certain iconic scenes feel with a different wardrobe and color palette and all over aesthetic. as an artise~~~ i can always get into that shit. tho at the same time, practically speaking i don't think we need to try again this same way every few decades.
